Maryland state History 

Maryland has a long history. Some Native American tribes that lived on the land that is Maryland were the Lvanticoke, Shawnee, and Susquehanock. Early European explorers started to come to Maryland as early as 1542. The Maryland Colony was founded in 1632.  In 1776, Maryland joined other American cosines when they wanted their independence from Britain. Annapolis, Maryland was the first US capitol until 1783. Later the US capitol was changed to Washington D.C. Maryland became the 7th state on April 28, 1788. Annapolis was then named the Maryland state capitol. In 1830 the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad Company built the first railroad station in Baltimore. During the Civil War, the bloodiest battle took place in Maryland. It was the Battle of Antietam on September 17, 1862.
